why do this?

Why? Ideas, Ideals. I am a problem solver. I see a void I can fill and I have many ideas for doing so. Someone said ideas are worthless unless followed by action. I do not think my ideas are worthless.

I want to create something more colorful, lively and mature than what I know. Something to satisfy the intellectual palette of people who might not even play muds, as well as those experienced players finding most muds or games monotonous, negative or otherwise dreary.

On average, new games are not as fun as old games.

At times I even stop to wonder if I can call the latest creation a game. There are certainly exceptions to this and I follow them, love them and analyze them, the creators, the abstract elements and anything else.

However, generally speaking most new games are not created with the same regard for certain nameless qualities. I call it gameplay for lack of a better word when I began quantifying this quality in my early teens.

Similarly, it seems to me that the best MUDs no longer exist. I know of few quality MUDs still open, and the best one of them will soon close as it becomes a commercial game requiring a custom client.

When designing this game we should think about fun.

What is fun, why is it fun, why do I want to log on?
